I want you to try something. Go outside one hour before sunrise or sunset and take your shoes off. Press your feet firmly into the earth, (either dirt, mud or sand), and directly look at the sun for 10 seconds, (increase more time daily as your eyes adjust). Imagine that this is all your body needed for nourishment, that your appetite shifted from food in your mouth to your eyes drinking the sun’s rays.
Sound crazy?
Well a NASA study has confirmed that it can indeed happen through sun gazing, or sun eating as some practitioners have called it.
Just ask Hira Ratan Manek, who NASA funded the study where a team of medical doctors at the University of Pennsylvania observed and recorded him 24 hours a day for 100 days. They confirmed that he was indeed able to survive largely on light with occasionally a small amount of buttermilk or water during this time.
He possessed the SUPERHUMAN ability of not needing to eat.
So, how does your body actually drink in the sun?
It’s been said that during your first 3 months of sun gazing, the suns energy starts to move through the eyes and charges the hypothalamus tract. The hypothalamus tract, rear of the retina, actually leads to the brain. Over time, the brain becomes activated by the sun’s energy supply. Some say that at first, it feels like a release of mental tension/worry.
Since food gets it’s energy from the sun, it is said to be readily available to sun-eaters without the trouble and energy directed towards digestion.

At some point, like it did for Hira, hunger ceases and just disappears on it’s own.
You might ask, what good does this do?
With the release of tension or worry, it’s much easier to have clarity. Within the first couple months of a sun gazing daily practice, it’s reported that fears, feelings of jealousy or anger are all replaced with a positive attitude and the person feels confident with a spiritual base and pure heart.
I mean, who hasn’t heard of someone feeling good after being in the sun?
Feeling good is not only figurative though. After 3-6 months, studies even show that actual physical diseases go away with 30 minutes of sun gazing a day. This is associated with the hues of the sun reaching the brain. Color therapists indicate healing occurring with colors that flood the body and brain with whatever color is lacking in that area of the body. For example, the kidneys need red, and if deficient, red sun rays make their way from the sun through the retina to that deficiency.
One could even argue that this is validated by ancient scriptures such as the Vedas which describe colors with the chakras, (energy centers), to organs as well.
“There are seven primary chakras located in the subtle physical body, the body of light and energy that is our awareness and that surrounds the physical.” –Zen Master Rama
So not only does these sun eaters inherit super human qualities, they essentially have found a way to increase their longevity.
After 6 months, studies show evidence that the energy that has been stored no longer needs to repair the body or mind…but it can move into supporting the gain of super human abilities that have been reported as “inconclusive.”
What powers do they possess??!
There’s only one way to find out….
where do you think plants and trees get their energy from ? have you ever seen a plant or a tree at the supermarket ? i tried it last year here in england during a rare few weeks of consistent weather and i did not eat for 3 months and i lost just the right amount of weight i put on over the winter , it is now starting to hot up again to date 18/04/15 and i sat in the sun again this morning and i have not eaten all day , but i dont think it would work all year round as you need the winter to store up some fat etc ?
In reply to the end of the article… “have you or anyone you know ever experienced sleep paralysis or something similar? Share your experiences below!” I would like to share my experience with sleep paralysis. I actually had sleep paralysis and realized I was dreaming (lucid dreaming) although it was extremely hard for me to calm myself down with the feeling of paralysis, I actually had an out of body experience. I floated up like 3-4 feet above my body and turned and looked down at myself and my girlfriend sleeping next to me. It was so vivid it was frightening. I panicked and was yelling for my girlfriend to wake me up. She did just that, and said I was screaming that practically. Now I wish to have that experience again to further take control of the dream and get myself to relax and take the dream even further. I will never forget that experience. I would also like to note that I have been seeing synchronicities on a regular, day to day basis. Mainly with numbers. I see them everywhere like on license plates, receipts, road signs, store prices, my car odometer and especially on the clock. I will get this intuitive nudge to just glance at the clock and I will see a particular set of numbers show up all the time. I’ve finally decided that its not just coincidence and that there is something more in this life that is meant to be experienced. I just wish I knew what they all meant. I’ve been referring to this site that talks about angel numbers and what they mean. But am uncertain as to where to go from there. All of this has led me on a very spiritual journey to discover myself and all that there is out there. Including this sun gazing, which I had heard of and done in the past but had never known that you could receive enough power to not need to eat. Feel free to contact me if you have further enlightenment or want to share a similar story. brody.freestone@gmail.com
What about when it’s cloudy? I live near Seattle where seeing the sun is a rare and beautiful experience. LoL
I started doing this last year, but not consecutively, and haven’t done it since around October. When I start again, can I start where I left off, time wise, or do I have to build up again?
Did you have any results? I don’t think I would ever want to go without food — I love it too much! But if it reduced hunger so I ate smaller portions, that would be a good thing! I also like the idea of the body doing self-correcting or self-healing. I bet it would be challenging to remember to keep the practice up, though.
